Kari Piippo

Born in Finland in 1945. Studied at the department of Graphic Design, School of Industrial Arts, Helsinki. After graduating 1967 he specialized in illustration and poster design. Kari Piippo has taught graphic design at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki from 1989–1997.

His work has been shown in many individual and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad, and Piippo has given many poster workshops and lectures around the world. Major Finnish awards include Pro Finlandia, the State Industrial Arts Award, Graphic Artist of the Year, four Gold Awards and Platinum Award in the Best of the Year competition.

His international awards include e.g. three Gold Awards from the Mexico Poster Biennial, 1st Prize in Bolivia Poster Biennial, Silver from the Lahti Poster Biennial, First Prize from the Biennale of Theatre Posters in Rzeszow, the Icograda Exellence Award in Chaumont and Warsaw, 1st Prize in Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition and Grand Prix Trnava Triennial. In Graphis Poster Annual competition Platinum and several Gold awards.

Kari Piippo was also a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale, AGI.
